If you’re anything like us, you adore your furry four-legged friend, but you might also find yourself in a constant battle with how to remove dog hair from carpets. Pet hair will often infiltrate every inch of your home’s carpets and rugs. Maybe our pets have a secret mission to turn your home into a fur-covered wonderland?

Well, fear not because today, we’re diving into the best methods to remove dog hair from carpets and rugs. Whether you’re dealing with a Labrador that sheds enough fur to knit a sweater or a Pomeranian with a penchant for nesting in your shaggy rug, we’ve got you covered, I mean CLEAN! Let’s roll our sleeves and bid adieu to those stubborn hair balls altogether!

How to Remove Dog Hair from Low-Pile Carpets?

If you’ve got short, flat carpets or rugs at home, dog hair can stand out, and getting rid of it can be challenging. Usually, the fur sticks in there because of static electricity or gets stuck in those thin carpet fibres. Most pet lovers invest in a “Special Vacuum for Pet Hair“, only to find they don’t do much for the smells they lead behind, and have to be cleaned out constantly. Its usually best (especially if you have pets) to do a professional carpet cleaning at least once every 4-6 months. Best part is, our carpet foam, is 100% kid and pet friendly!

If you want to continue to do pet and hair clean up on your own, here are some tips to help things go right!

Method 1: Lint Roller

If you don’t have a lint roller, get one—it’s super handy! Press the sticky part of the roller onto the carpet and roll it to pick up the hair. Keep an eye on the sticky sheet and change it when needed. Don’t have a lint roller? You can DIY one with a paint roller and sticky tape, but be careful as you do not want glue to get into your carpeting. The down-side of this method is that you would have to continue to purchase lint rollers, more or less forever.

Method 2: Rubber or Latex Gloves

Rubber gloves can be your secret weapon. Put them on and rub your hands on the carpet. The gloves build up static, making it easier to grab the hair. If they get too hairy, rinse them with water, and you’re good to go. Grab a small bucket or container to gently collect the pet hair, and dispose of it.

Method 3: Squeegee

A rubber squeegee, like the one you use for windows, well it works great for carpets and rugs too. Wipe it across your carpet in one direction to gather the hair into clumps. Then, it’s easy to pick up or use a handheld vacuum to scoop up the mess. The problem with vacuums is you will always have to empty and clean them out. Again, they won’t do much for lingering pet odors, for that you will have to get your carpets deep cleaned.

Method 4: Fabric Softener

Mix one part fabric softener with three parts water in a spray bottle. Mist your carpet with this solution and let it dry. The liquid fabric softener breaks down static, making the hair and other particles easier to remove with a vacuum. You have to be super careful here, as you do not want to over soak your carpets, so this one might be more risky, but it works!

Other Methods That Work on High-Pile Carpets

Here are some ways that work well on high-pile carpets when removing dog hair. These carpets have longer threads that can make the job tougher, so we need some special tricks.

Method 5: Carpet Rake

Carpet rakes are like special combs for your carpet. They can reach deep down and loosen up dirt and dog hair. It’s best to get one with rubber bristles because rubber can help with static, making it easier to remove the hair. These are sort of specialty items, but you can find them online, and its what professional carpet cleaning companies use when cleaning.

Press down a bit when you use the carpet rake, and use short, strong strokes to get the most hair out. If too much hair gets stuck in the bristles, clean it off so you can keep going.

Method 6: Dog Brush

Surprisingly, your dog’s brush can also be a great tool here! Use one with long, stiff metal bristles, especially if they are metal. These brushes can dig deep and grab those stubborn and loose hairs. Like with the carpet rake, if too much hair piles up on the brush, clear it away to keep it working well.

Method 7: Pet Vacuum Cleaner

If you’re willing to spend extra money, a pet vacuum cleaner is a fantastic choice. These vacuums have strong suction and special features to stop hair from getting tangled in the nozzle. They do a great job, but they can be pricey.

If you want a more budget-friendly option, consider getting a pet hair attachment for your regular vacuum. It might not be as good as a pet vacuum, but if you combine it with the other methods, you’ll still get good results.

So, don’t let those high-pile carpets scare you there are ways to keep them free from dog hair, too!
