A-Z Stain Removal Guide

Carpets add warmth, provides sound insulation and adds richness to the room décor. But as much as we love carpets, we can avoid staining them, especially with kids and pets around. Well, here are A to Z carpet stains and DIY tips on how to remove them.

Alcohol:mix 2 cups of cold water and a cup of vinegar and spray on the carpet.

Blood:Treat the fresh blood with cold water or cover with parts of cold water and meat tenderizer then clean off with cold water after 30 minutes.

Chewing Gum:Freeze the gum with ice cubes and scrape off using a butter knife after which you will soak up with trichloroethylene

Mud and dirt:Deep white cloth in a detergent solution and apply to the stain. Sponge up excess liquid with a dry cloth after 15 seconds.

Egg:Mix 2 teaspoons of hand washing liquid and 2 cups of water and use a white cloth to apply on the stain. Soak up excess liquid with a paper towel and rinse with plain water then vacuum.

Fruit Juice:mix I tsp laundry detergent and 1 ½ tbsp white vinegar in water and apply to the stain then blot up.

Glue: moisten a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol and press it on the glue stain, then gently wipe off the moistened glue residues after some minutes.

Hair dye: a tbsp of hand washing detergent and 1 tbsp of white vinegar, mix in 2 cups of warm water. Apply, dry the excess liquid, rub alcohol,and then clean with cold water.

Ink: Mix milk and cornstarch, apply and brush it off after a few hours

Jam: Mix 1 tbsp of dishwashing detergent with 2 cups of warm water, apply on the jam stain and soak up excess liquid.

Ketchup:add 1 tsp neutral detergent, 1 tsp white vinegar in 1-quart cold water, spray on the stain and soak up until the stain disappears.

Lipstick: a dry-cleaning fluid will work

Mayonnaise:add 1 tbsp dishwashing liquid and 2 tbsp white vinegar in warm water. Apply on the stain and rinse with plain water then let it dry

Nail polish:use cotton or rag dipped in a nail polish remover

Oil: apply shaving cream, let it dry and rub off using a soft cloth

Paint: Mix 1 tsp vinegar and 1 ½ tsp laundry detergent in 2 cups of water and sponge away the paint then rinse with cold water

Red wine:apply club soda, mix warm water and dish soap and apply on remaining stain then remove using plain water

Shoe polish:use nail polish remover/solvent. Mix 1 tbsp of ammonia in 2 cups of water and use it to clean the stain

Tea: pour beer on the stain, rub it with a clean white cloth and soak up the beer. Repeat until the stain in no more

Urine (pets):soak up with paper towel and club soda and scrub off using diluted carpet shampoo

Vomit: sprinkle cornstarch or baking soda on the stain and vacuum it after 15 minutes

Wax: cover the area with a brown paper and run a warm iron over to blotter and absorb the wax

Yogurt:remove the excess yogurt and use cold water on the stain and dry with a white cloth.

Zucchini: add 1 tbsp of dishwashing detergent to 2 cups of warm water, apply on the stain.
